The medicine inside may be the same, but none of these products is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). That means a licensed US pharmacy can't legally sell them, and products bought from overseas websites haven't been checked for US quality, strength or labeling standards. The FDA has repeatedly warned that erectile dysfunction products sold online can contain the wrong amount of medicine or undeclared ingredients.
Doses and forms that don't exist in the US
Many of these brands come in strengths or forms that aren't approved in the US:
- 120 mg, 130 mg, 150 mg and 200 mg sildenafil – the maximum recommended dose in the US is 100 mg once a day.
- Oral jelly, effervescent tablets and "super active" softgels – not approved forms of sildenafil in the US.
- "Female" versions such as Femalegra and Ladygra – sildenafil isn't approved to treat sexual problems in women.
Super P Force, Super Kamagra and other combination pills
Products such as Super P Force, Super Kamagra, Cenforce D and Super Fildena combine sildenafil with dapoxetine, a medicine for premature ejaculation that isn't approved in the US. Others, such as Malegra FXT and DXT, add an antidepressant (fluoxetine or duloxetine). Combining these medicines increases the risk of side effects such as dizziness, fainting and low blood pressure, and they aren't approved for sale in the US. If premature ejaculation is a concern, talk to your doctor about the options.
How to get sildenafil legally in the US
FDA-approved generic sildenafil contains the same active ingredient as Viagra and is held to the same standards. To buy it:
- Get a prescription from a licensed US prescriber – an in-person or telehealth visit.
- Order from a licensed pharmacy that asks for your prescription. Be wary of any website that sells prescription medicines without one.
- Start at the dose your prescriber recommends – usually 50 mg, or 25 mg for some people.
At PharmacyFarm we sell FDA-approved sildenafil 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg tablets. You upload your prescription at checkout and our pharmacist verifies it before your order ships.
Who shouldn't take sildenafil
Never take sildenafil – from any source – if you take nitrates for chest pain (such as nitroglycerin) or riociguat, because the combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Tell your prescriber about heart problems, low or high blood pressure, liver or kidney disease and all the medicines you take. Get help right away for chest pain, an erection lasting more than 4 hours, or sudden loss of vision or hearing.
